I have quite a bit of time on my hands during recovery and movies are one of the things I use to fill that time. Here’s a little review I started to share what I’ve seen and what I think…
X-Men: First Class – 4 out of 5. If you’re a fan of the X-Men characters and movies you will love this flashback to how it all started. Learn how and why the mutants are the way they are, like why Professor Xavier is in a wheelchair. I also enjoyed the back and forth banter between James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
Shawshank Redemption – 5 out of 5. I know, can’t believe its taken me this long to see it. Well, they weren’t kidding…this film is amazing, legendary, no wonder its on the Top 100 list…top 10 for me. The storyline, the message, the characters, actors, direction, even down to the production design this film has an authentic message of friendship and performance that was so heartfelt it actually brought tears to my eyes by the end. In my opinion, Tim Robbins best work, and of course Morgan Freeman is always splendid.
Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocal – 3 out of 5. I’m a big fan of the films, but this one was lacking umph. The storyline wasn’t my favorite and neither were a few casting choices. The “bad guy” didn’t compare to Philip Seymour Hoffman in Mission Impossible 3, nor did he look like he could hold his own in a stand off with Agent Ethan Hunt/Tom Cruise. But I will say, the stunts were amazing as always! And the fact that Tom Cruise does his them himself is pretty sweet to watch, like this one on the tallest building in the world.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – 4.5 out of 5. The book was awesome, the film was equally awesome. Great story telling. Rooney Mara depicted Lisabeth Salander’s hard and soft persona so well and she made quite a physical transformation. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books and seeing future films, including the original Swedish versions. I’d include it in my top 10 as well.
Friends with Benefits – 4 out of 5. Really enjoyed this romcom! I love the beautiful Mila Kunis; she’s such a natural, and always plays her character so well. I was impressed with Justin Timberlake’s performance; being his first film in the leading role he really held his own on this one. And those booty shots weren’t bad either 😉 Their chemistry was believable, and the storyline was light hearted and relatable. Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, Jenna Elfman, and Woody Harrelson made a perfect supporting cast. They really lightened up the story and gave it a little more heart. Much better than No Strings Attached, which tried to pull off a similar story.
The Hangover Part II – 2 out of 5. Definitely not as good at the first one, doesn’t even compare in my opinion. There were some funny moments, especially from quirky Alan (Zach Galifianakis), but the storyline was pretty far fetched.
Wanderlust – 3.5 out of 5.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang – 4.5 out of 5.
The Muppets – 4.5 out of 5.
Real Steel – 3.5 out of 5.
Hunger Games – 4 out of 5.
